Original.
Historical issue of
Time, with a 9-page special section
dedicated to Warren Report conclusions.
From the article:
" The Warren Commission took 10 months before finally submitting its
report to the President last week. In the agonizing interim, there were
complaints that the Commission was deliberately desultory - perhaps trying
delay until past the November elections.
In its final form, the Commission's report was amazing in its detail,
remarkable in its judicious caution and restraint, yet utterly convincing
in its major conclusions.
The wonder was not the Commission took such long time to complete
its report, but that it did so much so swiftly."

Original.
Article from the Italian weekly EPOCA, December 4, 1966.
In the "Italia domanda" column, the question is asked, "Why can't Kennedy
be left alone?"
Livio Caputo responds, concluding the article with these words:
"A country like the USA cannot accept that one of the most tragic events
in its contemporary history remains confined to a shadowy area, amidst the
unhealthy fog of so many doubts. Few things are as irritating, few things
are so contrary to the American spirit as this mystery.
Millions of people 'won't leave Kennedy alone' because they haven't been
at peace with themselves since he died that way, amidst that fog."

Kennedy".
Historical issue of Time, the week after Robert Kennedy's assassination
(June 6,1968).
The cover was painted by Louis Glanzman,
whose last previous portrait for TIME was of Charles de Gaulle (May 31).
Glanzman, assigned to do Kennedy's portrait eight hrs after the shooting
in Los Angeles, found the commission an almost painful personal
experience. When President John F.Kennedy was assassinated, the artist
worked all night on a portrait - for himself - as a kind of catharsis for
his grief. This time, faced with a hard deadline, he also worked the night
through. "I was glad to have the chance" he said "I had to get it out of
my system". |
