Comment from the Coach
Team,
A great, character-building but
stressful win today. Our first extra time win (and game) and the first time
we have progressed past the first round of the cup (as far as I can
recall...) - so a game you can all feel very proud of. The final score-line
of 5-4 reflected the nature of the game - fast, open and free-ranging. To
persevere in such an ebbing game was great - very proud of the display team.
We started off with the key advantage of having 3 subs - a bit of a luxury
compared to our past few games - and we needed them today with the pace and
length of the game. We used the subs bench a lot today with players coming
on/off for sharp spells - I know you all want to play the whole game - but
we need to use all players to keep those legs fresh. We will try to play 3
subs wherever possible to provide this optionality.
Some good individual performances today - a great debut from the new lads -
Gareth in defence played with strong physical presence and good
vision whilst Greg played a fast and furious game playing the close
ground balls very well. Mo and Andy chipped in with good
individual goals and Tom played a versatile game in both mid field
and defence. Man-of-the-match today was
James - 3 skilful goals starting with a
fantastically placed free-kick. Towards the end of the game, he then dropped
back to defence to help bolster the tired legs.
A great game overall guys - you
can all smile now!
