Team,
We were always going to up against it today when
we could only field 10 players - but you all responded well. We had to play
players out of normal position which was not ideal but your spirit in the
face of a rather physical team was commendable.
We made the early running and were justly rewarded with an excellent goal
from Johnny. We held this position till
well into the first half when eventually, South Park started to work out the
spaces and had us chasing balls. We then started to make some defensive
changes to try to defend ourselves against their fresh subs coming off the
bench but tiredness played its' part in the end as we went down 7-1. Not a
pretty scoreline but when viewed in the harsh light of day, if the roles
were reversed, I would have expected to win 7-0 - so don't beat yourselves
up - lets pick ourselves up and take it into next week.
Some excellent performances today - despite the scoreline,
Francesco managed some great saves today
and kept the scoreline below double digits. Tom
responded well to the move to mid field and tried to create the
opportunities up front that would have been seized upon with a full team.
Andy was tireless in defence and kept his
humour throughout (was that 10 minutes or 10 goals to go will live with me
for a while...). Man-of-the-match today was
James - starting midfield then stepping back to defence to quell
the attacks was a big ask but he responded with some crunching tackles (made
and received...), constant chasing to create opportunities and good
clearances - great effort.
