Comment from the Coach
Team,
An excellent,
fighting win today - the 6-4 scoreline reflected the tight nature of the
game.
The first real match of the season is always a tough one and 27 degree
plus heat did not help. But you all showed good commitment and stamina
today - some are still carrying the effects of illness and injury but we
generally played through it. Had to make a few more changes than normal
today but important given the conditions. 40 minute halves are tough when
it's hot so your personal fitness levels will become very important as the
season progresses.
It was also good to have the goal scoring shared around today - 2 from
Callum in the first half set us up very well, James scored 2 solid goals
after moving further up front, Johnny scored on his debut and Benedict
scored the first goal I've seen him score (there may have been others...).
It was great having Jack back in the team - he bolstered the already
strong defensive line - good to see the fitness from cricket carrying
through too.
Deciding the Man-of-the-match today was very tough - it could have come
from many players given the consistency shown today. But the player who
played consistently well and then made the extra special effort when we
were under pressure to resist their attacks was Rob - great positional
play, definitive heading and consistent clearing all hallmarks of his
game. Great effort Rob!
.Enjoy the rest team and feel proud - a great first up effort
