Comment from the Coach
Team,
What a way to
close out the season. A quality 5-1 win in very cold conditions was a
great effort. Thanks to the band of supporters today who braved the
elements to support the lads.
We were
playing on our preferred hard and fast pitch which suited our play. We
made many substitutions today and mixed some players around and it all
seemed to work well. The only goal we conceded was against the run of
play so we did dominate play very well. Still some areas to work on in
terms of converting possession to goals but I'm not complaining given the
scoreline!
Defensively we
were very strong despite the absence of Jack and Andy's early injury. The
defence has been the backbone of our game this year as evidenced by our
league leading goal difference - the fact this continued today despite
having only half the normal defence being out was especially pleasing -
quality efforts from James G and Benedict
in rising to the challenge.
Goals today
were shared between Martin with 3 (could have been the
magical 4 if one of his easiest headers of the season had been on
target...) and Raph with 2 (though the last one could
have also been an easy one for Callum...). The architect
of 4 of the goals today was Matt who played a blinder and
was a clear man-of-the-match today. Matt used his pace to create space
and threaded some delightful balls through to the forwards. He used his
physical presence to greater effect today and read the flow of play very
well - great effort. Just reward would have been a goal....next time....
