Just over 9
months after the assassination of John F. Kennedy, on November 22, 1963,
most countries around the world issued stamps in his memory. Kennedy was
celebrated as a humanitarian and champion of world peace, and Nigeria was
one of the countries to issue stamps in his honour. The issue that
appeared was released on August 27, 1964. It consisted of three stamps:
- 1/3d light violet and black - Kennedy and the United Nations Emblem -
designed by M. Shamir
- 2/6d Black, red, blue and green - Kennedy and U.S. and Nigerian flags -
Designed by M. Goaman
- 5/- Black, deep blue, red and green - Kennedy and flags - designed by
Mr. Bottiau. |

Human Rights Year.
The set of 3 stamps has three "Fighters for Human & Civil Rights" :
John F.Kennedy, Abraham Lincoln and Marthin Luther King.
Ras al-Khaimah is one of the Persian Gulf Arab sheikhdoms forming, as of
1972, the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Ras al Khaimah was the last of the Trucial States to issue its own stamps.
Ras al Khaima post office was opened on December 21, 1964. Its first set,
which was issued on the same day of the opening of the post office, was
very similar to the original Trucial States designs. From the opening of
post office in 1964 to the last issued set in December of 1972, Ras al
Khaima issued 903 stamps and 148 souvenir sheets. |
